  • Airport Renewal Project Update No.7 – Tuesday 24/11/20

Major works finished – Grooving works to start next week

As mentioned in our last update, the majority of works are now completed - including the refurbishment of the runway and improved airfield lighting.

About 45,000 tonnes of asphalt has been laid during the project with the main works completed four months ahead of schedule. The asphalt has now had a number of weeks to cure – and the final phase of works - grooving – will begin next week.

What do I need to know?

    Works and Timeframes

The final grooving, and some final minor works (lighting and drainage) will take place from the 1 December – 19 December 2020. If there are delays (i.e weather) works will be halted over the Christmas and New Year period – with works to then recommence in January 2021.

The grooving works will have to occur at night to avoid disruption to flights and minimise impact on residents and visitors using commercial passenger flights. While there will be some noise generated from the grooving, these works will not be as noisy as the laying of the asphalt and major works phase. All other works (i.e lighting and drainage) will be completed during the day.

Please visit the project page for more detailed information on the project:

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the project please do not hesitate to contact the Project Team:

The next update will occur the week of 7/12-11/12/20

We acknowledge our local residents and airport stakeholders and thank you for your patience and understanding while this important work has been carried out.
