Hervey Bay City Centre

The Fraser Coast Regional Council, in partnership with the Australian Government, is building a better lifestyle for Hervey Bay, creating a revitalised world-class city centre and civic hub.

Re-shaping Hervey Bay’s community and significantly enhancing the heart of town, the Hervey Bay City Centre Masterplan will transform the region into a primary and popular destination, and cultural and creative precinct, with diverse food, dining, social and shopping experiences on offer.

The Hervey Bay City Centre Masterplan will preserve and enhance connections between key local destinations, including the City Centre and cultural precinct, the facilities and services of Hervey Bay, Wetside, foreshore and natural surrounds.

Public Realm Strategy endorsed to guide Hervey Bay City Centre development

Greener streets, more outdoor dining, pop-up events and prioritising pedestrians are among the key elements of a strategy to revitalise the Hervey Bay City Centre.

The transformation of Hervey Bay's City Centre is officially underway!

The first sod was turned at the site of the new Hervey Bay Library & Council Admin Centre in late January 2024.

Council recently embarked on a whole of community consultation program to understand your thoughts on how together, we can shape a brighter heart of our region. Two rounds of consultation with community and key stakeholders have proven successful, with high participation rates and great insights coming from all corners of the city. Many and varied ideas were shared with Council around what should be preserved and what could be improved to create a more vibrant, green and inclusive city centre.

Community feedback, coupled with learnings from previous master plans, and other current data has led to the development of the finalised Master Plan. The Master Plan for the city centre will act as a real catalyst for meaningful change and improved local life. The Hervey Bay City Centre Master Plan has pulled together the views of all, to offer a picture of what the future looks like, but more importantly, how to get there.

Council received community feedback on the Master Plan and the strategies proposed, and which of those are the priorities in the short, medium, and long term. The full engagement report for both stage 1 and stage 2 of the community engagement process is now avialble online, in the Document Library.

The Hervey Bay City Centre Master Plan offers a new vision for the future that ultimately supports a more welcoming, accessible place for all, and celebrates the best of our region, Hervey Bay and our communities.
