Housing Diversity & Land Supply

Fraser Coast Regional Council is currently reviewing the Planning Scheme (Fraser Coast Planning Scheme 2014). As part of the review, Council has initiated a range of projects and background studies to inform the Planning Scheme. A Housing Diversity and Land Supply Study has been undertaken to inform how the future Planning Scheme manages residential settlement pattern, demographic changes, and housing provision.

The Fraser Coast Housing Diversity and Land Supply Study seeks to identify gaps in the existing provision of housing and settlement pattern issues,and puts forward policy responses to address the gaps. The study recommends a settlement pattern and housing typology response that is based on:

  • demographic trends;
  • infrastructure efficiency;
  • the existing housing stock;
  • current development trends (approvals);
  • stakeholder engagement; and
  • identified future housing needs.

Council engaged consulting firm Urbis in 2021 to undertake the project over 15 months.

The Housing Diversity and Land Supply project addresses the key goal "provide housing diversity and choice"identified in the Building Better Neighbourhoods roadmap;
