Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park – Master Plan

Project Overview

The Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park (MSEP) is a significant facility within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area, developed on a purpose designed 105HA site and is one of the largest multi-purpose public venues in regional Australia. The venue hosts numerous equestrian events, festivals, community activities and exhibitions each year.

Council has engaged Stantec and Otium Planning Group to prepare a Master Plan for the MSEP that considers the key outcomes from the earlier MSEP Strategic Plan. The master plan will provide a greater level of detail and understanding of the identity, opportunity and constraints, elements of and location of facilities and infrastructure of MSEP.

Council’s priorities to be addressed as part of the master plan process include;

► Ensuring MSEP facilities are safe, sustainable and fit-for-purpose as well as meets the defined level of services of the Strategic Plan.

► Ensuring future improvements conform to an agreed long-term plan and avoid ad hoc decision making.

► Examining the opportunity to provide a larger, integrated facility that addresses broader needs and enables multi-use rather than single – purpose, like for like building.

The Master Plan has a 10 to 15-year planning horizon and will be used to guide the development of the site, as the Fraser Coast Region continues to evolve. It also assists Council in better understanding how to increase use of the facilities, improve the standard of facilities, and improve site viability.
