The role of Fraser Coast Youth Advisory Council is to provide strategic direction and youth leadership to support and seek youth views and opinions about the community in which they live and actively engage young people in developing solutions.
The Youth Advisory Council sets out to achieve youth views in development and implementation of local strategy or policy to address issues of concern, opportunities and drive positive change.
Aim of the Youth Advisory Council
Provide a platform where young people can voice opinions and concerns on behalf of their peers.
Encourage peer engagement amongst young people.
Assist, support and deliver Fraser Coast youth projects.
Provide an opportunity for Youth Advisory Councillors to have a better understanding of Local Government processes and an understanding of the three levels of government.
The Youth Advisory Council will meet monthly alternating between Maryborough and Hervey Bay Council. Members may meet throughout the month when working on special projects and events.
The membership of the Fraser Coast Youth Advisory Council shall be made up of 12 young people aged between 12 – 24 years. Members will be appointed by Council to provide a balanced representation of the diverse interests and geographic areas of the Fraser Coast.
If a member does not attend or appoint a proxy to attend for 3 consecutive meetings, their membership will be terminated.
The composition of the Youth Council should also strive to achieve a diverse representative balance.
