Burrum River Proposed Speed Change

At its ordinary meeting in November 2024 (11/24), Council noted the Community Engagement and Evaluation Survey report (eDOCS#5076930) and delegated authority to the CEO to make a formal submission to Maritime Safety Queensland that the speed limit on Burrum River Weir No 1 be reduced to 6 knots to address the current safety and environmental risks, noting that:

• Community engagement returned a 92% postive response to reducing the speed limit on Burrurm Weir 1 to 6 knots;
• Council has no regulatory role in enforcing speed limits on the Burrum River;
• A speed limit of 6 knots would be consistent with the limits imposed by Council on Lake Lenthall.
