January 2020 - May 2020: For duration of works the Toy Library will be relocated. *subject to change
Overview
The revitalisation of the Maryborough CBD will go to the next level in 2020.
There will be new upgrades along Kent Street while the demolition of the old Council administration building will pave the way for the development of a new Fraser Coast Regional Council adminstration centre and library.
Maryborough CBD Beautification – Kent Street (Lennox to Adelaide Streets)
The next stage of works will occur east of the Kent and Lennox Street intersection, and will include kerb and channelling, footpaths and paving, replacement of the City Hall retaining wall, as well as lighting, artwork and landscaping.
Council appreciates the Queensland Government’s funding commitment of $921,960 towards the $2.5 million project to revitalise Kent Street between Lennox and Adelaide Streets, which includes the first stage of work completed earlier this year.
Maryborough Administration Centre – Demolition Works
An independent engineering report found the existing Council administration building at 431 Kent Street has reached the end of its working life and has to be demolished. Council is committed to maintaining a presence in the Maryborough CBD and will develop a new administration centre and library on the same site.
The School of Arts Building will be closed from early next year and for the duration of the demolition works, while the Maryborough Toy and Special Needs Library will also be relocated in January to a temporary new location that is yet to be determined.
Council has insisted on a number of measures to minimise the impact of the demolition work on the community, including no use of large hydraulic jack hammers, air quality monitoring and traffic control.

Future Works
The development of a new Maryborough administration centre will be a long process, with demolishing the old building the first step. This is a generational opportunity for Council and a unique opportunity for Maryborough, with a lot of detailed planning and community consultation to occur before a new administration centre is built.
It’s all part of Council’s plan to build better communities here on the Fraser Coast.
