Hervey Bay City Centre Public Spaces & Streetscapes

Project Overview

Fraser Coast Council sought your feedback on the Vision Document for our public spaces and streetscaping for the Hervey Bay City Centre areas of Main Street and Torquay Road, to help us develop the Public Realm and Placemaking Strategy.

A key project within the implementation of the City Centre Master Plan, the Public Realm and Placemaking Strategy will drive vibrant subtropical streets, great city centre parks and spaces, celebrate the coastal landscape, be accessible and welcoming for everyone, attract and retain visitors to the City Centre and invest in resilience.

The Vision Document was the first major deliverable for the Public Realm and Placemaking Strategy project that sets out themes, infrastructure and activation features to provide connectivity, locational enhancement and changes to re-energise the City Centre Precinct, Streets and Public Spaces.

It builds on the City Centre master plan and public engagement work, as well site investigations and feedback from Council Departments. The feedback gathered about the Vision Document was thenused to develop a detailed Hervey Bay Public Realm and Placemaking Strategy, which will provide conceptual designs for identified streets that inform future, publicly-owned infrastructure projects within the City Centre.

Council endorsed the 'Public Relam and Placemaking Strategy' at its July 2024 Meeting. Council thanks everyone who was involved in developing this strategy.
